Where Zaptask came from

The road from rooftops to AI
was 18 years long. None of it was wasted.

Most software founders start in software. Brett didn't. He started on a ladder in the rain, holding a clipboard and a phone that wouldn't stop ringing. Here's how it went.

1995–2007

On The Top Roofing

Brett spent over a decade running crews, leads, complaints, and Friday afternoon scheduling miracles in Springfield, Ohio. He learned the hard way that good systems are the difference between a profitable summer and chaos.

Late 2007

The crash

The housing collapse stopped the phones overnight. Crews idled. Survival meant reinvention. By 11pm Monday, Brett was teaching himself HTML and CSS at the kitchen table.

2010

First real apps

MySQL unlocked dynamic data. Sites that actually did something — quote tracking, customer logs, scheduling boards. The seed of every Zaptask feature was planted in this period.

2010–2020

The languages

Java for logic. JavaScript for the front end. C++ for the parts that needed precision. Year by year, the toolkit grew. The vision was still vague — but the chops were getting real.

Python clicks

Python pulled it all together. Suddenly the inefficiencies Brett had lived through on roofs — botched schedules, vanishing inventory, endless call loops — were solvable in code. The lightbulb came on: why patch problems manually when AI could preempt them?

2025

Zaptask A.I., LLC launches

Built in Springfield, Ohio. Multi-tenant. HIPAA-ready. Configured to industry from day one — not a generic AI bolt-on. The platform Brett wishes he'd had when he was running crews.
